People for Change has been called into the senior community of Cameron Grove to address the conditions of the residents caused by poor quality built homes. The Builder/Developer for the Cameron Grove Project is Stavrou Construction Inc.
The Cameron Grove Community is located across the street from Six Flags just off of Central Avenue. It sits in Legislative District 23B and Council District 6.
The residents have reached out to their elected officials (Council Member Samuel Dean Dist 6 and State Senator, JJ Peters Dist 23B) but the problems have still not been resolved.
There are 11 condo units, cottage homes, villas and and single family homes--many which have been experiencing problems for years.
Some of the problems include:
1. Large gaps in the windows causing dirt, air and bugs to enter their homes
2. Lack of proper insulation in the walls which leads to bathrooms and master bedrooms being very cold in the winter
3. Duct work poorly done preventing heat from traveling to the master bedroom and other large rooms
4. Water damage to floors, walls, ceilings, and furniture
5. Mold and Mildew in the units
6. Sewage backup in condos
7. Gas Leaks
8. Busted pipes
9. Defective water tanks
10. High electric bills due to having to having to use several portable heaters to stay warm
11. Residents were promised heaters by the builder but the builder recently changed their mind
People for Change is working closely with the residents of Cameron Grove to get their issues resolved. Today a group of the seniors testified at the County Council hearing to let the council members know of some of their challenges.
