Hoop Dreams meets Mr Congress

Hoop Dreams Scholarship Fund is the non profit organization started and run by Susie Kay. Recently, the organization held a Congressional reception for the United States Congress. The reception allowed people to network with those who have been involved in the Hoop Dreams' organization over the years. At the event ,a few members of the U.S. Congress gave brief speeches and showed their support for the organization.
Hoop Dreams provides mentoring , funding and support to District of Columbia students in need. After the students complete the mentoring program , they receive scholarship assistance from Hoop Dreams. Doing the mentoring process , students are allowed to prepare for higher education in various forms. Private help for students is very important. The time has past when Pell grants covered 75% of college education. Government funding has been replaced by student loans and scholarship funds. The 75% the government provided in the 1970's has changed to 22%.
Hoop Dreams has to continue to fight as a non profit because of economic times in the United States but , Susie Kay along with corporate , volunteers , staff and other donations is able to pull of events such as the Congressional reception. There are pictures and video below of the event.
