The Miss USA crown is up for grabs again and women from 51 parts of the United States will take part in the event. One District of Columbia resident , whose name is Nicole White, will represent the District of Columbia.
Nicole White is the 2009 MISS DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA. She and her family moved to the District when she was just an infant. Nicole mother and father are from Panama City, Panama but, White was born and raised in the United States. To must people who come to this country, this is a miracle story. Many minority immigrants have a hard time while in the United States and, it is nice to see Nicole White excel.
Nicole is a junior at the George Washington University majoring in Communication and American Studies. After this year is over and the MISS District of Columbia crown has to be passed to the next person, White could follow the same path of two people she looks up to in the Communication world or entertainment industry. The two people are Tyra Banks and Angie Ange from WKYS 93.9.
Nicole made the following comments about the two ladies in entertainment.
"I had the opportunity to meet her(Angie Ange) when we were both guest judges at a scholarship youth dance competition. She has a fantastic energy that is infectious and a very big heart."
"I am a big fan of Tyra Banks. She is so unafraid of being vulnerable and putting herself out there flaws and all. I loved how she turned a negative situation into a positive when the media was bashing her about some unflattering photos taken without her knowing on the beach on vacation, and she came out on her show in that same bathing suite, curves and all and really embraced her body and let women know it’s ok if you are not a size zero, curves are beautiful."
Although Nicole White has seen many advantages in life by attending St. Andrews Episcopal School, she still has taken part in the community by joining Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc, taking part in voting drives such as Rock the Vote, and Live Hard, Vote Hard.
Most contestants that go after this Miss District of Columbia crown take off a year but, Nicole White is still a student at GW. She still faces day to day struggles with balancing her new title and role along with her grades and education.
Nicole is not worried about bad press or gossip blog sites if she wins the Miss USA title. She made this comments about various gossip sites.
" As human beings were always interested in what’s going on in the community, and a lot of the news is just really entertaining. The only bad things about gossip news, is when it’s about you and something that may not be as favorable. But it does serve as an equalizer and ensures that everyone stays humble."
