Ebony and Jet as a publishing house is a class act and a historical foundation in the publishing industry. The Johnson publishing house has lasted a very long time. The two publiciation were major information outlets in the African American or Black community for a very long time. The publication tried to present black folk in a positive light while presenting other content.
In today's internet world, tradition print publications are starting to make adjustments and not just because of the economy but the internet. For example, it is rumor that Ebony and Jet have laid of people in their Chicago location which has not been done before. With the American Automotive industry in trouble, many publications ,who have received ad revenue in the past, have either received less ads or none at all.
This has lead people to talking about the current status of Ebony and Jet. Some of the long time subscribers are worried and are starting to hold subscriptions parties to keep the Ebony and Jet magazine a float.
Time will tell if this rumor is true. If you remember Essence , it was once majority black own but, today it is not. Will Ebony and Jet follow the same path.
