THE 80’S LOVE IT OR LEAVE IT!
streetroachpics.com
I’m a child of the eighties. I did it all! The tight rolled jeans,
big slouchy socks, legwarmers, leggings, the sweatshirts with my “rap”
name on them (Sweet K if you were wondering) and yes, even the Hammer
pants. Flipping through old pictures made me realize one thing…. WE LOOKED
RIDICULOUS! So, imagine my surprise that the fashion gods have decided
to the 80’s are back. What? Why? Isn’t it too soon for that? I surely
can’t be reliving fashion trends in my own lifetime. Isn’t there some
kinda fashion rule that states that a trend must wait forty plus years
before it can be repeated? Ah well, since there is a lack of creativity
in the fashion industry we have to deal with it or start a fashion
revolution.
The basic “hot” item you’ll need, my little fashion sheep, is the
skinny jean. The name alone implies that 96.9% of us shouldn’t be wearing
this style of jean. Here are a few helpful hints in pulling this off. If
you are not at least 5‘10in tall and 120 pounds: Wear Heels! I f you
don’t your legs will look stubby. Also, pair it with a long sweater. A
chunky turtle neck adds some class while still keeping it funky.
Remember, the more curves you have= the longer your top should be! This leads
me to the other and equally unflattering trend: the legging. Perhaps
the most heinous thing a woman could put on her body and call it fashion!
This time around the legging is paired with a mini skirt (denim or
corduroy). This does help hide some of the area most women will have issue
with but it still leaves your legs out there to be judged! Leggings are
not forgiving. They will highlight every dimple and bulge. Wear them if
you must, but please take into consideration your body type. Pair them
with a super long cardigan over a woven or add a longer skirt or even
dress as a layer.
There are ways of course of taking part in the big trend without fully
committing to it. Accessories are a perfect way to stay current. A big
leather belt, shiny new bag or some big gold earrings are the perfect
addition to an existing wardrobe. I’m not going to lie to you ladies,
legwarmers are on my must have list for this season (or even arm
warmers). So, get out there and relive it! Next time we’ll talk about the
revolution. Any ideas?
